About the Horses
Old South Carriage Company’s horses each have a story. Many are Belgian and Percheron draft horses that come from Amish farms, where they were bred and trained for physically demanding work. In Charleston, they experience a more balanced routine with an emphasis on care, rest, and overall wellbeing.
They split their time between a spacious 112-acre farm on John’s Island and the city, with limited daily workloads and regular breaks. Between tours, they rest in a shaded, well-maintained stable and are closely monitored to ensure they remain healthy, comfortable, and well cared for.
